On Fri, 20 Apr 2007 15:03:54 -0500, in a place far, far away, OM
<om@all_trolls_must_DIE.com> made the phosphor on my monitor glow in
such a way as to indicate that:

...So, anyone know the whereabouts of the usual suspects? Guth?

I thought that JSC was a gun-free zone? How could this have happened?

That was reported on Channel 13 here in Houston, Jacob's Engineering is down
sizing by 100 or so.

Building 44, labeled "Lyndon B Johnson Space Center" in google's map. Across
the street from Building 30, Mission Control, lower right.

Local News already reported his name. W. P. Jr. and are already interviewing
neighbors.

Who lives here, News helicopters all ready orbiting house, which is right
next to Ellington Airfield.

....Nah. Based on what info has been leaked out so far, what appears to
have happened was that the contractor agency laid some guy off who was
nearing retirement anyway, and he went back to blow away the young
punk boss that got him fired.

Having had personal experience of one of these shooting episodes, I'm
of the firm opinion that it's far MORE disrepectful to enable people
at the breaking point to freak out and take other people on their
suicidal rampages than it is to find some humor and help the healing
process. Such as the news network that reported the shootings earlier
this week at "Vagina Tech". Now, how do you think THAT one slipped by?

If people want to talk seriously about these things, I can match
pretty much anyone. Problem is, few people REALLY WANT to talk
seriously because it will inconvience them...

(I hope the guy at Houston wasn't wearing diapers!)

What a week...

By the way, didn't we just see this story a week or two ago on
"Medium"?

You know, in the part I snipped, you wrote about the "healing
process". This wasn't a society-altering cataclysmic event. It
was a murder-suicide.

Society-altering cataclysmic events may need humor to deal
with. In this case, it was an all-too-frequent (perhaps daily)
tragedy. It mainly affects the lives of the immediate friends
and families. I don't think your humor on Usenet can be
rationalized as being somehow therapeutic.

You're right. We need to lock up all the loners, misfits, and nervous
types TODAY. Hey, we think you're weird, so we're gonna throw you in
an asylum just in case you're the 1-in-100,000,000 who wants to pull a
Columbine or Virginia Tech or Texas Tower. Being laid off? Sorry, but
we're also gonna lock you away and make you see a shrink, because, you
know, you might come in tomorrow and try to kill your boss and
co-workers on your last day. You never know, and we gotta keep the
people safe!

Bill of Rights? We don't need no stinkin' Bill of Rights...
