I'm researching Apollo 7, and have come across some inconsistencies
between documentation and post-flight CM photos. I've searched &
googled without finding answers, so can anyone help?

Here are photos of the A7 CM showing what I'm asking about...
http://www.ninfinger.org/~sven/models/apollo/cm07.html

1) Documentation says A7 used Block I couches, but the couches in the
displayed CM look like Block II couches. Does anyone have photos or
drawings of the Block I couch assembly?

2) Documentation and preflight photos show the CM had the usual Mylar
tape, but the displayed CM is white. The white is very worn, and the
C and S-band antennae circles are visible, so it doesn't appear it was
painted post-flight. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Peter

....Not sure on this one. The Block I couches might have been replaced
when the capsule was refurbished prior to display.

....In pretty much all cases, the mylar/kapton tape is removed for one
of three reasons:

1) Post-flight analysis of the material WRT exposure to space and its
hazards.

2) A *lot* of it is actually burned off by reentry.

3) What isn't turned over for post-flight analysis tended to wind up
being saved as souvenirs Smile
